Hotel in Bodmin
Located in Bodmin, 19 miles from Newquay Train Station, Bodmin Jail Hotel has accommodations with a fitness center, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. The decision to stay for the night in this converted prison was born out of curiosity. The initial drive into the parking area of the hotel was awfully depressing. Huge tall vertical walls and a massive block like building with tiny windows that box you in. Having parked you take a second look and see a modern tower of glass and smooth contemporary architecture that forms an inviting entrance in the middle of the granite structure. After entering the inner sanctuary via a tunnel through the thick outer wall of the prison block you are greeted by a simple reception pult that whilst mirroring the austerity of the main prison is actually the domicile of a friendly receptionist. She (or he) is happy to give you a smile and listen to your jokes about not having being there for a while and not wanting to stay too long. Nowadays though the reception staff hand out personal magnetic cards instead of accompanying you to your room with a key. There are three floors with rows of cells facing each other on each side of a long central gallery. A glass roof and metal staircases at each end of the block complete the first impression. In former days the architecture was simple but the new architects have done a wonderful job with the conversion. External elevators now connect the floors, discrete openings provide easy access to the restaurants and other public areas. Each hotel room is formed by connecting three cells internally to provide bedroom, sitting room and bathroom. The architects have managed to combine modern elements with colour and soft surfaces to provide a feeling of luxury and warmth whilst at the same time retaining a presence of the severity and spartanism that once dominated. A true work of art, we enjoyed our stay, the restaurant, breakfast in the old chapel and a guided tour of the older non-converted part of the prison provided a highlight to our holiday. Die Entscheidung, in diesem umgebauten Gefängnis zu übernachten, entstand aus Neugier.

We had a lovely second visit to Tintagel! Yes, we returned to Tintagel, and why not? A village that has it all - excellent food (King Arthur Arms, Cornishman Inn), spectacular views, King Arthur's castle, Merlin's magical cave, & a feeling of the knights of the round table in the air. Another historic site in Tintagel is the medieval post office, a must see. Everyone, locals & visitors, are extremely friendly & will strike up a conversation in a heartbeat. (My kind of folks). Tintagel is a walk in time that is not to be overlooked on a trip to Cornwall.
Ancient former capital of Cornwall. Charming walkable tiny city with several magnificent churches, and the remains of Launceston Castle set in glorious countryside. Stayed for for 4 glorious days in The Eagle house boutique hotel where we lived and ate in the18th manor house like pampered landed gentry adjacent to Launceston castle.
Great relaxed break, friendly locals and lovely restaurants. We went to The Stables pizza restaurant which is great to watch the sunset from, big windows overlooking the sea and really tasty pizza. The town seems very dog friendly, walking on the beaches most people have dogs, nearly every pub/restaurant has at least one customer with a dog, all nice friendly dogs. We flew to newquay airport which was great, it’s a very small airport and quite calm to go through, then we rented a car and Newquay town was about a 10min drive, very simple. The only negative I had from this trip was driving around Cornwall was a bit stressful for me, the terrain is very hilly and I’m not used to driving up such sharp inclines and there were some crazy junctions with poor visibility because of these inclines.
Falmouth is a great place to enjoy a family break as well as for couples. You can enjoy the full spectrum of town life, shopping and it’s working maritime heritage, the restaurants serving some of the finest cuisine from all around the world or escape (sometimes virtually walking distance) into rural Cornwall and the magnificent local beaches. You can hire kayaks and paddle boards on the local beaches, enjoy wildlife sea tours (we would highly recommend AK Wildlife Cruises) or just take things at a slower pace at many of the wonderful parks and natural attractions in the area. Definitely one of our top places to visit again in 2018!
A real taste of Cornwall, compact town with lots of nice shops and restaurants. We ate in Zizzi’s and had a lovely meal. It’s lovely to be so close to the sea.
Great sea side town with lovely views of the ocean, and close to beautiful scenery areas like Land’s End, Minack Theatre, and Cape Cornwall.
Got around by car. Roads were easy to follow, but quite a lot of double mini roundabouts, and a lot of cars parked on both sides of roads in general, narrowing the access routes. Some hills which make for great views. Loved driving around Carlyon Bay. Ogy 1 pastie shop sold the best pasties of the 3 we tried in Cornwall. Visited Eden Project for the first time and loved the rainforest biome the best! The humidity and scents took me to a different world. Also been to Hangloose Adventure Park next to Eden Project good, but they don’t provide photos nor a photographer like some adventure parks, so if this is important to you, take someone along to help with this. There’s an option to hire a camera case for £5 to attach your own mobile phone to your helmet, on the Skywire attraction. It captures the views you’ll witness. St Austell brewery was a brilliant, informative tour, with beer sampling, free onsite parking and they even offer a student discount with valid student ID. The people we met everywhere were very friendly and helpful. The booklet Best Days Out In Cornwall, available at most accommodations or attractions, provided some coupons for some of the attractions. I did not use these, but found the information in it helpful.
We have only been visiting Cornwall since our daughter started university in Falmouth. We have enjoyed our trips to Falmouth during the last 3 years and will continue to visit even when our daughter’s course is finished. One of the places we would highly recommend to eat is Pennycomequick. You’ll definitely need to book.
Marazion is quieter than expected. St. Michaels Mount is very beautiful and mysterious. Everyone in Marazion was very friendly. It's a perfect base from which to explore cornwall due to its close proximity to the A30.
St Michael’s Mount is the main attraction and is definitely worth the visit but the town also is a great place to relax, enjoy good food, quiet walks, chat with friendly residents. Marazion is also a great Headquarters for exploring other parts of Cornwall
Tintagel
Booked two nights and ended up staying for three. John was a great host with loads of knowledge of the local area. Hostel is a 5-10 minute walk to the cliffs/beach where you get stunning views of the coastline and a great base from which to explore North Cornwall. Nice breakfast, hot showers and comfy beds! Fridges in rooms and a usable kitchen is a nice touch that you don't normally get in UK hostels. Value for money way above that of a local hotel or BnB. Hope to return again in the future.
Firstly: price. Have stayed in lots of places in West Cornwall for work in recent years, discovering that the Greenbank Hotel of all places offers competitively priced rooms was a surprise. Second: breakfast. Simply wonderful. They're flexible with menu choices, the food is delicious and you sit looking across Falmouth Harbour. In winter, that means watching the sun come up over the water. Third: Staff. Friendly, polite. An old-fashioned approach to service. Fourth: Parking. Plenty on-site.
The Hotel staff at the Wellington really made our visit. They were very helpful and accommodating. They took extra time to answer our questions and tell us about nearby places that we may want to visit during our stay. We had to check out early to catch a train and I had left a pair of earrings behind. They contacted me first and asked if I wanted them to mail the earrings to me! We had an exceptional stay and will definitely stay there again when visiting Cornwall.
Carbis Bay
Had an amazing stay here complemented by the wonderful owners Margaret and Martin who greeted us with the warmest welcome, they made us feel so at home and the attention to details throughout our stay was so lovely! The breakfast every morning was exceptional and some mornings we enjoyed this whilst sat outside with the most stunning view of the sea, couldn’t recommend staying here enough! We will sure be back when visiting Cornwall ☺️
Penzance
I travel all over Cornwall with work and stay in some of the best Hotels but in Penzance my budget doesn’t stretch far. This quaint little friendly pub is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are very clean and the bed is very comfy! The breakfast which is brought to your room is stunning! Lovely staff that make you feel very welcome. Next door is another pub that serves very good food and again the staff are very friendly.
Port Isaac
The hotel is exactly what you hope for when you plan to visit Cornwall. It is charming and well furnished. Our room was beautiful and had a gorgeous view. Everything was very comfortable and excellent quality. We had dinner the first night, and it was wonderful. (cheese souffle for the win!) The staff on our check-in day was friendly and warm. It's close to Port Isaac, and the private parking was a huge asset.
The Falcon Hotel has been a meeting place for me and my family for as long as I can remember, over 50 years. Together with The Brendon pub next door, The Falcon Hotel is an icon of Bude and in fact North Cornwall. The Falcon Hotel is of historical importance, it is a wonderful building in an amazing location. The staff are local, friendly and always helpful. I look forward very much to returning in the future.
Wonderful large apartment, fully equipped and centrally located. Even nicer than the beautiful photos: tastefully decorated with a maritime, Cornwall theme and impeccably maintained. It's not a budget place, but if you are looking for a beautiful apartment, centrally located with a full kitchen and direct access to Padstow's reknowned restaurants, this is the place to stay. Highly recommend.
Lots of space. If you were staying a while you would easily be able to unpack properly. Good breakfast. Swimming pool available in summer. Very useful folder of information about the hotel and local area. Including the free Wi-Fi code - always appreciate not having to pay for Wi-Fi. Hotel is in an excellent location for accessing both north and south coast of Cornwall.
Charlestown
Super nice little apartment in the quietest of areas. Apartment was very functional and had all the necessities. Short walk to the beach, easy to visit Charlestown Harbor and closeby to grocery, restaurants, bank etc. Easy check in and out was nice. Central location to see Cornwall and still be able to come back to call and quiet. Nice view of the bay very relaxing!
Everything about the Hotel Meudon far surpassed our expectations, from the lovely (and spacious) cottage in which my husband, myself and our two children stayed, to the gorgeous grounds and the absolutely gourmet food we had at each meal. We have determined this will be the only place we stay when we return to Cornwall, and feel so lucky to have found it online.
The staff at this hotel are so friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. Considering this is a hotel at a services it is very well maintained, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The services next door are useful for food and have a small co-op which was handy. It is very well positioned to go either further into Cornwall or back to Devon
Another fabulous stay at the Tremarne Hotel this weekend. Would thoroughly recommend to everyone, it really is a little gem in a beautiful part of Cornwall. Wes and Tam are fabulous hosts and make you feel extremely welcome and comfortable. Food is amazing and the rooms are lovely with great views. Looking forward to returnin
Penzance
The people who work there are kind and considerate, many thanks to them. I liked the Cornwall design. For the dinner, we sat at a table with a great view on the harbor and the blue sea and palm trees. The hotel is very close to a large public parking that is not expensive. It is also quite close to the Scillonian ferry port.
St Ives
Location in a quiet area, 10-15 minutes walk to train station and Carbis Bay beach, bus stop for St Ives and other Cornwall destinations in front of the B&B. Shop (small supermarket) next door. Nice and friendly owners. Small issue with door hook hanging loose was immediately fixed after we reported it.
Camelford
Everyone were so friendly especially the house keeping (Top Marks for the ladies) and the Bar staff. Breakfast was perfect, Typical English thank god !! , The Golf course is really good. Perfect Hotel for a Golf Tour of Cornwall. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "I´ll be back"
Looe
Beautifully maintained, spacious and historical farm house, formerly of the Dutchy of Cornwall and thoughtful transformed into a 5 roomed well appointed Hotel/B&B overlooking Looe Island and the spectacular bay that has delighted so many holiday makers for many decades.
We stayed at the Mannings Hotel as it was very convenient for our visit to the Hall of Cornwall to watch a show. The Hotel also had free parking, and the staff were really good along with the breakfast, we will be back.
The Hotel is in a lovely setting, the pool although a little cool was refreshing and the sauna and spa were a perfect way to finish a week travelling around Cornwall. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The attitude of the staff, without exception, was helpful, friendly and efficient. It was a pleasure to stay at the hotel. If I were to visit Cornwall again, I would certainly stay at the Marazion Hotel.
